Indictment in Serious Iwilei Crash Involving Bicyclist and Pedestrian
HONOLULU, OAHU — A 35-year-old man was indicted on second-degree attempted murder charges following multiple vehicle incidents in downtown Honolulu on Saturday.
Authorities said Anthony Corpuz allegedly struck a 46-year-old bicyclist while traveling on Kuwili Street, leaving the victim in serious condition. Following this collision, they reported that Corpuz ran a red light, hitting another vehicle near Hotel and Alakea streets.
The driver of the struck vehicle, a 54-year-old man, sustained serious injuries. In a subsequent incident, the driver's vehicle collided with a woman on the sidewalk, leading to her injury while she was with her dog, though she was not initially detailed in the charges.
Honolulu Emergency Medical Services confirmed that the bicyclist was transported to a local emergency room, where he remains hospitalized.
Corpuz is currently held without bail at the Oahu Community Correctional Center. If convicted of the attempted murder charge, he faces a potential life sentence with the possibility of parole.
Additionally, he has been charged with first-degree negligent injury related to the second vehicle collision, with bail set at $100,000. The Honolulu Prosecutor's Office has reclassified the downtown crash case from attempted murder to first-degree negligent injury.
The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by local police authorities.
