Man Dies Following High-Speed Crash After Bar Incident in Calais
CALAIS, ME — A 40-year-old man died early Saturday morning after a high-speed crash while attempting to evade police.
According to authorities, Robert Boggia of Whiting was reported to police around 12:26 a.m. for allegedly threatening patrons at a local bar with a firearm. Witnesses indicated Boggia was driving a red Corvette.
A Baileyville police officer observed Boggia driving at speeds exceeding 150 mph. A Washington County deputy later spotted the vehicle traveling approximately 100 mph on Charlotte Road.
Upon following the Corvette, the sheriff discovered it had crashed, and Boggia was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Boggia had a history of legal troubles, including charges of arson and conspiracy to commit murder in connection with a 2013 incident in Blue Hill. Additional accusations included gross sexual assault, aggravated drug trafficking, and multiple counts of domestic violence between February 2017 and January 2018.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Boggia's crash is ongoing.
