Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Highway 46 in Meraux
SAINT BERNARD, La. — Louisiana State Police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred at approximately 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 28, on Louisiana Highway 46 near Mary Ann Drive in Meraux.
According to authorities, 70-year-old Viola Sino of Meraux was walking in the westbound lanes of Highway 46 while dressed in dark clothing. At the same time, a 2018 Toyota Corolla was traveling west on the highway. For reasons that remain under investigation, Sino was struck by the vehicle.
Sino sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Toyota was reported uninjured.
The investigation is ongoing, with further details expected to be released as they become available.
