Local father receives sentencing for 2024 rollover crash that tragically claimed his daughter's life.

BIXBY, Okla. – A Bixby father was sentenced to five years in prison following a guilty plea related to a crash that resulted in the death of his 15-year-old daughter, Shelby Binney.

According to the Tulsa County District Attorney's office, Elliot Binney pleaded guilty in April to charges including first-degree manslaughter and child neglect. The incident occurred in January 2024 when Binney was arrested after leaving the scene of the crash in Checotah.

Authorities stated that Bixby Police and Bixby Fire responded to a single- rollover on Highway 64 near Memorial Drive, discovering a child from the vehicle. Two other children were transported to the hospital for treatment, along with Binney's wife.

A Tulsa County judge ordered Binney to serve five years in prison, followed by five years of probation. Witnesses reported that Binney was driving recklessly in inclement .

District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler emphasized the tragedy of Shelby's death and the evidence against Binney, which included and fleeing the scene. He clarified that, although alcohol was present in the vehicle, there was no proof beyond reasonable doubt of impairment at the time of the crash.

Binney's wife, Brittany, submitted a Victim Impact Statement urging leniency, emphasizing their family's grief and the need for Binney's presence to support their surviving children. She requested the court to consider the unique circumstances of the case.

Judge Holmes has ordered a presentence investigation by the Oklahoma Department of Corrections. Binney may request a judicial review of his sentencing after serving two years.
