Lincoln Police Cite Denton Man After Fatal Crash Claims Life of 88-Year-Old Avoca Pedestrian.

LINCOLN, Neb. — A Lincoln woman has died days after being struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk on January 31, prompting a misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide citation.

Authorities identified the victim as 88-year-old Joan Meyer of Avoca. She was hit around 8:50 a.m. while crossing at 14th and G streets and succumbed to her injuries on February 4.

According to the Lincoln Police Department Traffic Unit, 47-year-old Michael Hughes of Denton was driving a 2010 red Chevy Silverado south on 14th Street. Police say he stopped at a stop sign before attempting to turn left onto G Street, colliding with Meyer in the crosswalk.

Emergency responders arrived promptly, providing first aid before transporting Meyer to the hospital with a serious head injury.

On May 11, authorities confirmed the investigation was complete, citing probable cause for Hughes. He reported to the Hall of Justice that day to be fingerprinted, photographed, and subsequently released on a citation for misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide.
