RUSSELL COUNTY, Ky. (LEX NEWS) — Search and rescue crews continued their efforts on Monday to locate a Lexington man missing after a boating collision on Lake Cumberland over the weekend.
The incident occurred around 11 a.m. Saturday near the mouth of Lily Creek when a second boat collided with an idle bass fishing boat, leading to multiple individuals being ejected. Chief Chris Money of the Russell County Search and Rescue team stated that one male returned safely to the boat, while the other remains unaccounted for.
Since the collision, search operations have transitioned from rescue to recovery. “Our belief at the moment is that it was just an accident,” Money said. Authorities have not yet released the name of the missing fisherman.
Two individuals were also aboard the second vessel; a woman was thrown overboard and subsequently airlifted to the University of Kentucky hospital. Her current condition is unknown.
The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife is conducting an investigation into the incident. Lt. Chris King urged boaters to wear life jackets, emphasizing their importance even in cooler months when fishing remains popular.
The search for the missing boater is ongoing.
