DORTON, Ky. (WCHS) — Kentucky State Police are investigating a crash that occurred early Saturday morning, leaving a trooper and a UTV operator hospitalized in Pike County.
According to a news release from State Police, the incident happened on U.S. 23 while two cruisers were parked in the median conducting a safety enforcement operation. A utility task vehicle collided with the rear of one cruiser, injuring Trooper Mitchell Culbertson.
Troopers confirmed that Culbertson suffered a head laceration and was treated and released from Pikeville Medical Center.
Authorities identified the UTV operator as 28-year-old James Honaker from Virginia, who sustained severe injuries and remains hospitalized in serious condition. The investigation is ongoing.
