KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. — A hit-and-run crash on Gull Road led to the death of 34-year-old Azariah Smith on April 14.
According to Kalamazoo Township Police, the incident occurred around 6:22 p.m. near 3700 Gull Road. Smith was traveling east on his motorcycle when a Jeep turned in front of him, resulting in a collision. The driver fled the scene but was later located at their residence. No criminal charges have been filed at this time.
Smith leaves behind his fiancée, Samantha McCoy, and their three children. McCoy reported significant changes in their lives since the incident, including financial difficulties, saying, “I received my eviction notice last week.”
A vigil was held shortly after the incident, attended by family and friends to honor Smith's memory. This past weekend, they gathered again to celebrate his life, coinciding with McCoy's son's birthday. “It's gonna be about my son that day, and his father,” McCoy stated.
The investigation into the crash continues, with authorities said to be pursuing all leads.
