MILILANI, Hawaii (Island News) – A single-vehicle crash resulted in one fatality on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:35 a.m. on Meheula Parkway near Keaolani Street. A 77-year-old man was driving southbound when he crossed over the raised median into the northbound lanes, then veered onto the sidewalk and struck a tree.
Both the driver and his 76-year-old passenger were transported to a nearby hospital in serious condition. The passenger was pronounced dead at 10:20 p.m. on Tuesday.
Authorities are investigating the crash, and it remains unclear if speed, drugs, or alcohol were factors. The investigation is ongoing.
This incident marks Oahu's 17th traffic fatality of the year, compared to 31 at the same time in 2022.
