IndyCar Driver David Malukas Injured in Nashville Crash

LEBANON, Tenn. — IndyCar driver David Malukas was to Vanderbilt University Medical Center following a significant crash during the Borchetta Bourbon Music City Grand Prix on Sunday.

The incident occurred on lap 83 of the race at Nashville Superspeedway. Malukas, who was competing in second place, lost control while battling rookie Louis Foster and collided with the wall.

Emergency personnel from the AMR Safety team assisted Malukas from his AJ Foyt Racing vehicle. He was evaluated at the in-field care center before being transported by helicopter to Vanderbilt for further assessment.

IndyCar Medical Director Dr. Julia Vaizer confirmed during the race broadcast that Malukas is awake, alert, and in good spirits. “He's in really good spirits. We're just sending him down to our trauma center for some precautionary evaluation and advanced imaging,” she said.

AJ Foyt Racing later issued a statement on social media asserting that Malukas had been evaluated and was responding well, attributing the decision for the airlift to safety protocols established by the IndyCar medical team.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the extent of Malukas' injuries.

News 8 will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as they become available.
