Indiana Man Charged After Fatal Crash in Hancock County

BEDDINGTON, ME – An Indiana man faces manslaughter charges following a crash that killed his 5-year-old son and injured his infant daughter on June 25.

Dion Campbell, 33, of Elkhart, Indiana, has been charged with manslaughter, operating under the influence, aggravated driving to endanger, and endangering the welfare of a child, according to Maine State Police.

Authorities reported the crash occurred just before 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of Routes 9 and 193. Preliminary investigations indicate that Campbell failed to stop at the intersection, leading to the vehicle striking an embankment.

Neither the 5-year-old boy nor the 10-month-old girl were properly restrained, and the boy was seated in the front passenger seat. Under Maine law, children under 12 are required to sit in the back seat when possible. The boy was at the scene despite attempts at resuscitation by responding officers and EMS personnel.

Both Campbell and the infant girl were transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center with injuries reported as non-life-threatening.

Campbell was arrested on Monday and is currently being held without bail at Hancock County Jail, awaiting an initial court appearance scheduled for Wednesday afternoon. He is represented by Bangor-based attorney Hunter Tzovarras, who specializes in OUI and DUI cases.
