Wrong-way driver causes fatal crash on Highway 20 near Webster City, Iowa.

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa — A caused by a wrong-way driver on U.S. Highway 20 resulted in two fatalities Wednesday afternoon.

According to the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, a caller reported a white pickup truck traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Highway 20 near the Webster City exit just after 12 p.m. Emergency responders, including Webster City police and sheriff's deputies, were dispatched to the scene to intercept the vehicle.

Before responders could arrive, the wrong-way truck collided head-on with a westbound vehicle. The drivers of both vehicles were at the scene. Their identities have not yet been released.

This incident remains under investigation by law enforcement.

Authorities urge caution on highway roadways as collision data shows 136 fatalities on Iowa roads this year, surpassing last year's statistics for the same timeframe.
