A traffic collision involving two vehicles in Phoenix on Jan. 29 resulted in two fatalities, authorities said.

The victims were identified as Ruben Almanza, 40, and the other driver, whose identity has not been disclosed. According to Phoenix Police, Almanza fled a traffic stop near Lower Buckeye Road and 59th Avenue before crashing his vehicle approximately 16 blocks later.

Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after the crash. Both drivers were at the scene, and no passengers were involved, authorities confirmed.

Authorities reported that the incident led to lane closures on Lower Buckeye Road for several hours as the investigation proceeded. As of now, there is no additional information regarding the cause of the crash or potential charges related to the traffic stop.
