Illegal immigrant indicted for deadly rollover crash that claimed her 9-year-old child's life, prosecutors say.

PHOENIX, AZ — A 30-year-old woman has been indicted in connection with a crash that killed her 9-year-old daughter on April 12.

According to the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, Brenda Rivera Estrada tested positive for marijuana and methamphetamine at the time of the crash. Authorities reported that the collision also injured three other children, including a baby.

Rivera Estrada has been charged with one count of manslaughter, three counts of endangerment, one count of possession or use of dangerous drugs, and one count of possession or use of drug paraphernalia. Public safety troopers initially suspected impairment during the incident that her daughter from the vehicle.

The Department of Homeland Security stated that is working with local authorities to ensure Rivera Estrada cannot jeopardize public safety again. officials reported that she initially was released due to a lack of immediate charges, but the Maricopa County Attorney's Office clarified that the case was under further investigation.

Rivera Estrada entered the U.S. in February 2009 as a temporary visitor but allegedly overstayed her authorization. She is currently held in the Maricopa County Jail on a $250,000 cash bond.
