HILO, Hawaii (Island News) – A 64-year-old man died following a two-vehicle crash on Thursday, July 30, 2026, in Kea'au, according to Hawaii Island Police.
Clifford Gouveia of Hilo was involved in a collision on Hwy 11 around 7:26 p.m. that included a motorcycle and a Honda CRV. The crash occurred between the Macadamia Nut Road and Kipimana St. intersections.
Authorities said the Honda CRV, driven by a 38-year-old man, was traveling south when it rear-ended Gouveia's Harley Sportster motorcycle. Gouveia, who was not wearing a helmet, was initially taken to Hilo Benioff Medical Center and later airlifted to Queen Medical Center on Oahu, where he was pronounced dead on Monday, August 3, at 4:29 p.m.
Officials confirmed that the Honda driver and a passenger sustained no injuries. Police reported that speed and inattention were likely contributing factors to the crash.
