Six Dead in Helicopter Collision Over Rio de Janeiro
RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil — Two helicopters collided in the city's western zone on Sunday morning, resulting in the deaths of all six individuals aboard, according to firefighters.
The Military Fire Department reported that one helicopter crashed into a car dealership parking lot, igniting a fire which has since been extinguished. Emergency services responded promptly to the scene.
An investigation is currently underway to ascertain the cause of the collision. Authorities confirmed that American singer and comedian Oliver Tree was listed among the passengers, but they have not yet identified the bodies of those who perished.
Witness Fernandes de Freitas described seeing one helicopter in flames and reported that one passenger appeared to jump from the second helicopter shortly before impact, stating, “It was terrifying, absolutely horrifying.”
