HAMMOND, La. — Louisiana State Police are investigating a crash that occurred on May 22, around 11:50 p.m., in Tickfaw, resulting in the death of a 6-month-old and injuries to a 5-year-old.
The incident took place on US Highway 51, just south of LA Highway 1064 in Tangipahoa Parish. A Hyundai Elantra, driven by 25-year-old Resjyne N. Griffin of Hammond, was heading north when it veered off the roadway into a ditch, striking a culvert.
Authorities reported that Griffin sustained moderate injuries. A 5-year-old and 6-month-old Kaybri Robinson, also in the vehicle, were transported to a local hospital, with the infant later pronounced dead.
According to police, Griffin displayed signs of impairment and was arrested at the scene. After receiving medical treatment, she was charged with vehicular homicide, vehicular negligent injury, no child restraint, careless operation, open container, and driving without a license.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
