Girl fatally ejected in crash on I-25 in southern Colorado.

One dead, two injured in Thursday afternoon I-25 crash near Walsenburg

WALSENBURG, CO – A Thursday afternoon crash on northbound Interstate 25 resulted in one fatality and two injuries, according to the Colorado State Patrol.

The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. when a 2024 Compass lost control on a curve approximately 8 miles north of Walsenburg, driving off the left side of the highway. The driver, a 31-year-old woman, crashed into several road signs in her attempt to regain control.

During the crash, the Jeep's rear door opened, ejecting a juvenile girl who died at the scene. Both the driver and a juvenile boy were transported to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

Northbound I-25 was closed for about three hours at milepost 60 for cleanup and investigation. All lanes reopened by 6:35 p.m. The cause of the crash is currently under investigation, authorities said.
