NORTHGLENN, Colo. — June 4, 2023 — A teen driver is facing multiple charges after a fatal crash following an attempted traffic stop Thursday night.
Authorities said 18-year-old Angelo Arias has been charged with vehicular homicide (DUI) and vehicular homicide (reckless driving) after the incident near Washington Street and E. 112th Avenue. Police attempted to stop Arias for erratic driving when he initially complied, but then sped off and crashed into a home in the 10400 block of Clarkson Street.
Arias' passenger, also 18 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene. No injuries were reported from the home, but the crash ruptured a gas line, prompting a CodeRed emergency notification to evacuate nearby residents.
Emergency crews responded swiftly, shutting off the gas line, and residents were later allowed to return home once the area was deemed safe. Witnesses reported that police suspected Arias was impaired at the time of the crash.
The identity of the deceased has not been released. Authorities are investigating the incident further and request anyone with information to contact Detective Brummel at 303-450-8857 or dbrummel@northglenn.org.
