TAMPA, Fla. (TNND) — An alleged street racing incident resulted in four fatalities and 11 injuries early Saturday in Ybor City.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the crash occurred at 12:45 a.m. when 22-year-old Silas Sampson lost control of his vehicle while driving at high speed. The car struck a crowd outside a business, impacting 15 adults in total.
Three victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while another succumbed to injuries at a nearby hospital. Nine individuals are currently receiving treatment in local medical facilities, with one victim reported in critical condition. Two others declined treatment at the incident site, sustaining minor injuries.
Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw expressed condolences in a statement, emphasizing the tragedy's senseless nature. “Reckless driving put innocent lives in danger,” he noted. The Tampa Police Department and the Florida Highway Patrol are actively investigating the incident and seeking justice for the affected families.
