Mountain Home Air Force Base, ID – Four crew members ejected safely after two Navy jets collided during the Gunfighter Skies Air Show on Sunday.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following the incident, which occurred off base at approximately 2:41 p.m. According to Kim Sykes, marketing director with Silver Wings of Idaho, all crew members successfully deployed parachutes before landing safely.
The base initiated a lockdown following the collision, and an investigation is currently underway. Witnesses reported seeing the aircraft collide, with videos capturing four parachutes deploying as the jets descended near the base, situated about 50 miles south of Boise.
No further details are available at this time, as spokespersons from the 366th Fighter Wing have not commented further. The air show, featuring aerial demonstrations and parachute jumps, is designed to celebrate aviation history and showcase modern military capabilities, with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds headlining the event.
The National Weather Service indicated good visibility and wind gusts up to 29 mph around the time of the crash.
