Fatal Crash in Moncks Corner Claims Life of 44-Year-Old Woman

MONCKS CORNER, SC — A fatal crash on North Highway 17A at Old Cherry Hill Road claimed the life of 44-year-old Jennifer Dangerfield from Bonneau on Saturday, August 16.

According to the Berkeley County Coroner's Office, Dangerfield was at the scene after her Toyota SUV collided with a Nissan truck driven by 58-year-old Gerald Langdale, who is from St. Stephen. Investigators with the South Carolina Highway Patrol reported that Langdale, traveling northbound, crossed into oncoming traffic and struck Dangerfield's vehicle head-on.

The passenger in Dangerfield's SUV sustained serious injuries and was taken to the hospital. Reports indicate the passenger suffered a broken back, neck, and leg.

Authorities stated Langdale, who was driving with a suspended license due to a prior DUI, displayed signs of impairment, including slurred speech and bloodshot eyes. He reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol before driving and consented to a field sobriety test, which indicated impairment.

Langdale has been charged with felony DUI resulting in death and felony DUI resulting in great bodily injury. He is currently being held at the Berkeley County Detention Center in Moncks Corner, with bond proceedings pending.

The investigation is ongoing.
