MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – A head-on collision on Interstate 85 in Montgomery County early Saturday morning resulted in two fatalities.
The crash occurred around 5:30 a.m. near mile marker 11. According to authorities, 36-year-old Salvador Garcia-Barrera, a Montgomery resident, was driving an SUV that collided with a pickup truck operated by 67-year-old Ronald Engel of Notasulga. Both drivers suffered fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.
Troopers from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency's Highway Patrol Division are conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the crash. Further details regarding lane closures or potential tows have not been disclosed.
