GREENE COUNTY, NC — A fatal collision involving a single vehicle occurred on Fort Run Road on Sunday, October 12, around 7:30 a.m.
According to the State Highway Patrol, the incident took place east of Peanut Road, near Snow Hill. Evidence suggests the SUV veered off the road to the right, overcorrected, crossed the center line, and then exited to the left. The vehicle subsequently hit a ditch and overturned in a peanut field.
Authorities identified the deceased occupant as 27-year-old Makaylah Dixon of Snow Hill, who was ejected from the vehicle. Her body was located in a tree nearby. The investigation is ongoing to determine whether she was the driver or a passenger in the vehicle.
Authorities indicated that alcohol and speeding are suspected factors in the crash, but further details are still being investigated. The roadway was closed temporarily for the response and investigation.
