TAMPA, Fla. (CBS12) — Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced Thursday the issuance of criminal and civil subpoenas against White Hawk Carriers following a fatal crash that resulted in three fatalities in St. Lucie County.
The truck driver, Harjinder Singh, is allegedly an undocumented immigrant who obtained Commercial Driver's Licenses (CDLs) from both Washington and California. Authorities allege Singh executed a dangerous U-turn, leading to the deadly collision. Uthmeier stated that Singh was unable to read road signs and could not communicate in English, raising concerns about his qualifications.
“Florida will employ every legal tool available to protect our citizens,” Uthmeier said during the announcement. He also expressed intentions to investigate how Singh obtained his CDL and to identify any similar cases of undocumented drivers receiving licenses in these states.
The announcement was made in coordination with local law enforcement, with Uthmeier emphasizing ongoing efforts to combat illegal activities.
