KALISPELL, Mont. — On Monday at approximately 11:55 a.m., a head-on collision on Highway 2 between Kila and Marion resulted in one fatality and multiple vehicle fires, according to Montana Highway Patrol.
A westbound Subaru Ascent crossed the centerline near mile marker 104, striking a dump truck head-on. The Subaru overturned and ignited, leading to the fire's spread.
Emergency responders pronounced the driver of the Subaru dead at the scene. The dump truck, which continued eastward after the crash, came to rest in the westbound lane and also caught fire. The driver of the dump truck sustained minor injuries.
Authorities closed the westbound lane of Highway 2 while crews managed the scene. An investigation is ongoing.
