Fatal Boat Crash Investigated on West Lake Okoboji

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a fatal boat collision that occurred on West Lake Okoboji in Dickinson County on Sunday, August 2. One person was killed and five others were injured in the incident.

At approximately 1 p.m., two boats collided near Pillsbury Point. In total, three individuals sustained serious injuries, while two others experienced minor injuries; all were transported to Lakes Regional Hospital and Spencer Hospital for treatment.

No injuries were reported among the occupants of the second vessel. According to DNR investigators, alcohol has been ruled out as a factor in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.

This incident marks the third fatal boat crash in Iowa within the last month. On July 4, a 14-year-old was killed in a personal watercraft collision on Clear Lake, and on July 30, a 59-year-old man died after his fishing boat was struck in the same area.
