KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WCHS) — A tractor-trailer crash on Tuesday afternoon caused a fatality and prompted the rescue of a dog in Kanawha County.

The incident occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m. near the Dunbar-South Charleston Bridge, closing all westbound lanes of Interstate 64 for several hours. According to authorities, the driver of the tractor-trailer was killed in the crash, while the driver of a second vehicle escaped with minor injuries.

The rescued dog, named Hennessey, is currently being housed at the Kanawha-Charleston Humane Association. The driver’s family has been notified and confirmed that they wish to reclaim the pet. A video captured an emotional moment as workers facilitated a FaceTime call with a family member, eliciting a positive reaction from Hennessey.

Plans are underway to reunite the dog with its family as soon as possible. Emergency response teams were on the scene to assist with the situation, and an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
