Traffic Crash Claims Life of 76-Year-Old Woman in Stephenson County
STEPHENSON COUNTY, Ill. — A traffic accident on Tuesday afternoon resulted in the death of a 76-year-old woman.
At approximately 3:00 p.m. on September 23, the Stephenson County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of US Route 20 East and Rock City Road. Upon arrival, officers observed significant front-end damage to the vehicle.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was traveling westbound on US Route 20 East when it veered off the road into a ditch. The vehicle subsequently struck an embankment, became airborne, and landed near a residential driveway located in the 7500 block of US Route 20 East. All airbags deployed during the incident.
The driver, a resident of Galena, was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash, which remain unclear. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending family notification.
