A single-vehicle crash across from Asheville High School claimed the life of the driver on Oct. 14.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:41 p.m. on West Asheville Boulevard. Authorities reported that the driver, a 25-year-old male, lost control of the vehicle, resulting in a collision with a tree. Emergency responders from the Asheville Fire Department and Buncombe County EMS arrived at the scene within minutes.
Despite immediate medical aid, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The roadway was closed for approximately three hours as officials conducted their investigation and cleared the wreckage.
Authorities said the cause of the crash is still under investigation. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle traveling at a high speed prior to the accident. The Asheville Police Department is leading the investigation and will provide updates as they become available.
