ESKO — A 43-year-old man died at the scene of a crash early Sunday morning on southbound Interstate 35, north of the Esko exit.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, law enforcement responded at 2:38 a.m. to snowy and icy road conditions. The driver, Nathan Oleary of Esko, was wearing his seat belt; however, it is unclear whether alcohol was a factor in the crash.

Authorities reported that Oleary's 2006 Cadillac STS lost control, spun out, and entered the right ditch, colliding with a guardrail. The vehicle overturned multiple times and struck an overpass bridge pier before coming to a halt.

Responding agencies included the Cloquet and Esko Fire Departments, Cloquet Ambulance, Cloquet Police Department, and Carlton County Sheriff's Office.
