Metairie, LA – Crash Through Grocery Store Wall Under Investigation
A vehicle crashed through the wall of the cafeteria at Dorignac's Food Center in Metairie on Tuesday at approximately 6 p.m.
The driver, an elderly man, was transported to the hospital; no injuries were reported among customers or employees. According to Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Brandon Veal, the circumstances surrounding the crash are currently under investigation.
Witnesses reported that the driver crossed the parking lot before hitting the building. Nicole Dorignac, co-owner of the grocery store, stated she and her husband learned about the incident shortly after it occurred. She described the scene as looking like “a bomb went off,” emphasizing the miraculous absence of injuries given the pedestrian traffic in the area.
A cashier supervisor near the impact site was knocked over but appears to have escaped without injury. Store ownership and employees, along with third-party contractors, are working to restore the undamaged portion of the store for customers by tomorrow.
Authorities said the cause of the crash is still being determined.
