CEDAR CITY, Utah (KUTV) — A driver was airlifted to a local hospital following a three-vehicle collision on Interstate 15 near Cedar City on Friday morning.
The accident occurred at approximately 8:20 a.m. near mile marker 54, about three miles south of Cedar City. According to Lt. Zach Randall, traffic was slowing down in the northbound lanes when a pickup truck failed to reduce speed, leading to the crash.
One vehicle struck a cable barrier and overturned as a result of the impact. The driver's condition remains unknown, with no additional injuries reported among the other individuals involved.
Utah Highway Patrol diverted northbound traffic off I-15 at mile marker 51 in Hamilton Fort, rerouting it onto Old Highway 91.
Authorities estimate that I-15 will reopen by 10:30 a.m. after crews clear the scene. The Utah Department of Transportation advised drivers to anticipate significant delays in the area, including residual traffic following the reopening of the northbound lanes.
