Dennis Giles Named as Victim in Fatal Felton Area Crash.

FELTON, DE – An 80-year-old man from Maryland was killed in a crash on May 10, according to Delaware State Police.

Dennis Giles, of Goldsboro, Maryland, was traveling northbound on Sandtown Road near Willow Grove Road around 4:50 p.m. when he reportedly passed two vehicles in a no-passing zone. Authorities said Giles lost control of his vehicle, veering off the curved road before striking two unoccupied commercial trucks parked in a lot.

Giles was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was later transported to a local hospital, where he was .

As of May 12, Delaware Department of Transportation officials report 41 traffic fatalities this year, marking a 24% increase compared to 33 fatalities during the same period in 2025. Last year's total ended at 117 fatalities.

Common crash types include those involving curves and roadway departures. So far this year:

  • Eight fatal crashes have been curve-related, a 100% increase from four in 2025.
  • Sixteen fatal crashes involved vehicles leaving the roadway, up 14% from 14 the previous year.
