Crash Leads to Arrest for Multiple Vehicle Theft Attempts

WARREN COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) — A man was arrested Monday afternoon in Warren County after allegedly attempting to steal multiple vehicles following a crash on I-165 southbound.

Kentucky State Police (KSP) responded around 2:41 p.m. near mile marker five and identified the suspect as 24-year-old Gregorio Lopez. After the incident, Lopez fled into a wooded area near I-165 and Sweeney Road.

During the confrontation, at least two KSP troopers discharged their weapons; however, Lopez was not injured. He was subsequently taken to a local hospital due to a suspected reaction to an illegal substance. No other injuries were reported.

Lopez faces multiple charges, including:

  • First-degree criminal mischief
  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of a controlled substance
  • First-degree wanton endangerment
  • Leaving the scene of an accident
  • Carjacking
  • Operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol
  • Second-degree fleeing or evading police on foot
  • No registration plates
  • Public intoxication (controlled substance)
  • Resisting arrest

The situation remains under investigation by KSP.
