Lede: Three women were arrested for alleged theft from a retail store in Evans, Georgia, on Saturday afternoon.
Authorities said the suspects were seen stealing from Marshalls at Mullins Crossing. Columbia County Sheriff's Maj. Steve Morris reported that the women fled the scene and were later spotted leaving Kohl's.
As deputies pursued the suspects, they escaped in their vehicle along Washington Road. The chase ended at the intersection of Old Evans Road when the vehicle lost control and crashed. The suspects then attempted to flee on foot but were apprehended shortly after.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, and the suspects sustained only minor injuries, which were evaluated by medical personnel.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns about retail theft in the Augusta-area shopping centers, which have been notably busy post-Christmas.
An investigation into the incident is ongoing.
