A Cove City woman died in a head-on collision with a dump truck on July 1, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at 11:24 a.m. on N.C. 55 near Dover Road in Craven County, involving a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze and a 2006 Peterbilt dump truck.
Authorities reported that 30-year-old Daejahnae Natalya Smith was driving west on N.C. 55 when she crossed the centerline, colliding with the eastbound dump truck.
Both vehicles came to rest off the roadway. Smith was pronounced dead at the scene by the Craven County medical examiner.
The dump truck driver, 56-year-old Tracy Bishop Simpson of Maysville, was evaluated at the scene and subsequently released.
