New Bedford, MA – A child riding a bicycle was struck and killed by a vehicle on Cherokee Street Wednesday afternoon, according to officials.
The collision was reported at 3:30 p.m. The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities, New Bedford Police said.
State and local police, along with the Bristol County District Attorney's Office, are investigating the incident. The road was closed during the investigation.
“Words cannot adequately describe a tragedy so profound. This child had their entire life ahead of them. I offer my deepest condolences to the family and whatever support we could conceivably offer,” said Mayor Jon Mitchell in a statement.
