Car bursts into flames following crash during firewood theft attempt.

MERLIN, Ore. – A caught fire after a crash on Robertson Bridge Road Tuesday night during an attempted firewood theft.

The incident occurred around 8:52 p.m. in the 3200 block of Robertson Bridge Road. Rural Metro Fire, AMR, and the JOSEPHINE COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE responded to the scene.

Authorities said the driver attempted to flee with firewood stolen from private property. The vehicle crashed and ignited during the escape.

No injuries were reported. Deputies have charged the driver with multiple traffic violations. The owner of the stolen firewood opted not to pursue charges.
