LAKE COUNTY, Ore. – A fatal car crash on Highway 140 is under investigation by the Oregon State Police (OSP).
At approximately 2:41 p.m. on Tuesday, July 1, a white Mercedes Sprinter van driven by 48-year-old Daniel Klinkert of Oklahoma collided with a southbound commercial truck towing double trailers. The truck, operated by 61-year-old Nicholas Cardoza of Lakeview, swerved to avoid the van and rolled off the roadway.
Cardoza was pronounced dead at the scene. Klinkert sustained no injuries.
OSP was assisted by the Lake County Sheriff's Office, Lakeview EMS, Lakeview Fire Department, and Thomas-Creek Westside Fire Department. The investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Lane closures were implemented during the response.
