GREEN BAY (WKOW) – The Green Bay Police Department responded to a bus crash on Sunday shortly after 2:30 p.m., resulting in multiple injuries.

According to our ABC affiliate WBAY, the bus was transporting 54 individuals when it veered off an Interstate 43 exit ramp. A total of 33 passengers were taken to nearby hospitals with injuries that varied in severity from critical to minor.

The bus was en route from Chicago to a casino in Michigan when it exited the interstate at Webster Avenue. Reports indicate that the bus, rather than coming to a stop and making a turn, continued straight.

Captain Clint Beguhn of the Green Bay Police Department explained, “If you exit I-43 northbound onto Webster Avenue, you will encounter a stop sign with options to turn right or left. Unfortunately, the vehicle went straight ahead and went over an embankment, landing on the pavement below.”

Captain Beguhn estimated that the embankment was approximately four to five feet high.

The bus came to rest between two warehouses in a paved area. Upon the arrival of first responders, they discovered multiple injured individuals still inside the vehicle.
