JUPITER ISLAND, Fla. (CBS12) — Newly released bodycam footage shows the moments leading to Tiger Woods' DUI arrest following a rollover crash on March 27.
Authorities reported that Woods' SUV flipped after he attempted to pass a pickup truck towing a trailer on South Beach Road, crossing double solid lines and striking the trailer.
According to the Martin County Sheriff's Office, deputies observed signs of impairment at the scene, including bloodshot eyes and lethargic movements. Two hydrocodone pills were found in Woods' pocket.
Woods claimed he was adjusting his radio and looking at his phone prior to the accident. In the bodycam footage, he can be heard stating, “I looked down at my phone and all of a sudden…BOOM.”
Emergency responders assessed Woods' condition, confirming he was uninjured. However, deputies noted potential impairment and conducted field sobriety tests. Woods denied alcohol consumption but acknowledged taking prescription medications.
He was arrested at the scene, with officers informing him, “At this time, I do believe your normal faculties are impaired.” During this interaction, Woods identified the pills as “Norco.”
Woods later submitted to a breathalyzer test, which showed no alcohol in his system, but he refused a urine test. This has resulted in misdemeanor charges for driving under the influence with property damage and refusing a lawful test.
The release of the footage coincides with a judge's recent decision allowing Woods to seek inpatient treatment overseas. Meanwhile, he remains charged with reckless driving from the incident, carrying a $163 fine.
Woods has pleaded not guilty, and the case is ongoing.
