Bicyclist Fatally Struck in Lee County Collision.

LEE COUNTY, Ala. (WAKA) – A bicyclist was killed in a crash early Monday morning on U.S. Highway 280.

At approximately 4:30 a.m. on July 27, 2026, 30-year-old Samuel Rybar of Slovakia was struck from behind by a van while riding his , according to Alabama State Troopers. The vehicle was driven by 36-year-old Jay Sexton of Opelika.

Troopers reported that Rybar was thrown from his and at the scene. The crash occurred roughly five miles east of Opelika.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident. Further details regarding lane closures or traffic disruptions have not been released.
