MONCKS CORNER, SC — A man was sentenced to three years in prison on Aug. 12 for a incident that resulted in the death of an 86-year-old man in April 2022.

Chauncey Arthur Jenkins Jr. was convicted of reckless homicide following a crash on U.S. Highway 52 near Mandella Road, which occurred on April 12, 2022. Jenkins, driving a Chrysler 500 truck westbound, collided with the passenger side of Calvin Lee Beauford's pickup. Beauford was to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries five days later.

According to an accident reconstruction team, Jenkins was traveling at 100 mph in a 55 mph zone at the time of the crash. Authorities stated that if Jenkins had obeyed the speed limit, Beauford could have safely crossed Highway 52.

Judge Jennifer B. McCoy imposed the prison sentence, which will be followed by five years of probation.
