BENTON, Wis. — In a distressing event on Tuesday afternoon, a school bus transporting middle school football players and coaches from Benton-Scales Mound-Shullsburg to a game in Stockton, Illinois, was involved in an accident.
Fortunately, representatives from the three school districts confirmed that all athletes and coaching staff emerged from the incident unscathed and were subsequently released to their parents.
The school's administration expressed relief over the safety of everyone involved and extended gratitude to the first responders who provided assistance at the scene, ensuring the well-being of the students, coaches, and bus driver.
Additionally, the districts acknowledged the Stockton School District for their support towards both students and staff following the incident.
To further assist students, counselors will be available on Wednesday across all three schools. They will check in with those directly involved in the accident as well as other students who might be feeling the impact.
For the convenience of families, personal belongings left on the bus will be transported to Scales Mound School, with notifications sent out to families once the items are ready for pickup.
Administration has also expressed appreciation for the outpouring of concern and support from the community, emphasizing that the thoughts of the districts remain with everyone affected by the incident.
