HAZLEHURST, Miss. — An Amtrak train traveling from New Orleans to Chicago was involved in a fatal crash on October 3 at 4:42 p.m.
The incident occurred when a vehicle obstructing the tracks collided with the train near Hazlehurst. According to the Copiah County Sheriff's Office, one occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.
No injuries have been reported among the approximately 180 passengers or crew members aboard the train. Emergency responders and law enforcement are currently conducting an investigation, and the scene remains active. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
