Critical Hit-and-Run Leaves 21-Year-Old in Serious Condition on Sand Island Access Road
HONOLULU, HI — A 21-year-old man is in critical condition following a hit-and-run crash on Sand Island Access Road early this morning.
According to Honolulu Police, the incident occurred when an unidentified motorist turned left from a driveway onto northbound Sand Island Access Road and collided with the southbound vehicle operated by the 21-year-old. The force of the impact caused him to lose control and strike a telephone pole.
The driver who caused the crash fled the scene without offering assistance. Emergency Medical Services transported the injured man to an area hospital in critical condition.
Police stated that speed does not appear to be a contributing factor in the incident; however, the influence of drugs or alcohol remains uncertain.
