TURNER — A deputy with the Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office was hospitalized early Saturday following a police chase that ended in a crash and an officer-involved shooting on Route 4.
The incident occurred around midnight when a vehicle crashed near the intersection of Routes 4 and 117. Witnesses reported that police were shot at upon arriving at the scene. Authorities confirmed that the deputy sustained injuries but is expected to survive; a LifeFlight helicopter was summoned for another individual involved.
Sheriff Eric Samson stated at approximately 1:30 a.m. that an investigation into the shooting was underway. Maine State Police are expected to assist in the investigation.
