MORRISON, Ill. — A police pursuit of a stolen minivan concluded with a crash on October 3.
Around 12:30 p.m., a Whiteside County Sheriff's Deputy observed a white minivan speeding out of a Morrison parking lot onto US Route 30. The driver failed to yield and continued eastbound at a high speed, passing multiple vehicles.
As the minivan approached Lyndon Road, it executed a U-turn and began traveling westbound on Route 30, swerving erratically and endangering other motorists. The deputy ceased the chase upon re-entering Morrison.
Shortly thereafter, the minivan disregarded traffic at Jackson Street and Route 30, resulting in a rollover crash involving another vehicle. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Investigators confirmed that the minivan had been stolen from Sullivan's Foods in Morrison. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Nathan Sandell, was arrested and charged with aggravated fleeing to evade, theft over $500, and possession of a stolen vehicle. Sandell has been taken to Whiteside County Jail and is awaiting a detention hearing.
Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
