Dion Campbell Faces Charges Following Fatal Crash in Hancock County

DOWNEAST MAINE, June 25 — A father was arrested Monday night after a crash that killed his 5-year-old son and injured his 10-month-old daughter.

Dion Campbell, 33, of Elkhart, Indiana, faces multiple charges, including endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated driving to endanger, criminal operating under the influence, and manslaughter, according to Maine State Police. He is being held without bail and is scheduled for an initial court appearance on Wednesday.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Route 9 and Route 193 shortly before 11:30 p.m. on June 25. Authorities reported that the children were not properly restrained in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

A state police trooper discovered the scene and found the boy in critical condition. Despite life-saving measures initiated by the troopers, he was at the scene. Campbell and his daughter were transported to Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with non-life-threatening injuries. No updates on the infant's condition have been provided.

Initial investigations indicated that the vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign before colliding with an embankment. The situation remains under investigation by Maine State Police.
